:: Neal Stephenson ::

:: Neal Stephenson ::: "Writing novels is hard, and requires vast, unbroken slabs of time. Four quiet hours is a resource that I can put to good use. Two slabs of time, each two hours long, might add up to the same four hours, but are not nearly as productive as an unbroken four. If I know that I am going to be interrupted, I can't concentrate, and if I suspect that I might be interrupted, I can't do anything at all. Likewise, several consecutive days with four-hour time-slabs in them give me a stretch of time in which I can write a decent book chapter, but the same number of hours spread out across a few weeks, with interruptions in between them, are nearly useless."

I read this today via Merlin Mann. It is interesting. Maybe a bit like glass. It takes time. Making one piece once is not enough. Time to do and do again. To think and process and do and not have the other of life interfere. Makes good sense and puts to words something I had not been able to put to words.
Thanks.
Keep it centered!

Things are coming along at Blue Sage Studios. Zack and Michelle are in town for a few days. Hoping to finish up his wall flower installation. We plan on getting Brent's big annealher wired up and running too.

OKCMOA class on Saturday but the museum class was canceled for next week so we have some morning blow time slots available if you can come in and work.
The GAS conference is coming up soon in Portland. If you need any tools let Roy know and he may be able to pick something up for you.

Studio Update

Things at the studio seem to be in good working order. We are getting a new relay for the blue annealher so it should be functioning properly again. The elements for the big annealher are shipping and it should be running very soon. Jim's Glory Hole is needing some work and finding the time is the trick.
We are creating some new and exciting items. If you have not been by lately, now is a good time.
I had the opportunity to visit Santa Fe last week and saw some very nice glass and a couple of new techniques. Patty was in a class in Tulsa with Ed Schmid and brought back some new insights.
Thank you all for your support and help. Together we really have created a wonderful place for learning and creating.

CallWave

CallWave: Text is the New Voicemail
Well, as many of you are aware I do not, or on rare occasion, listen to my voice mail or return calls. Working on it, really I am.
I found CallWave. It is a service that gets my voice mail on my mobile phone. It transcribes the gist of the message and sends it to my email, the internet site, and texts my phone. It also records the message to be retrieved through the phone (have not tried that yet) or their website. So this morning I get a call. I can't answer it but I listen to the message online and have a record of the call in three locations. The question remains...will I remember to call them back?
I hope so. Give me a call, leave me a message, let's see what happens.
Keep it centered my friends.

That's Clever

Whew, HGTV's "That's Clever" filmed me working in the studio on Saturday. It was great fun. A lot of work goes into the production of a six minute television spot. About six hours of filming and talking, and setting up, and moving, and redoing. With glass it is a one take process. It is hot and moving and one can not stop. The folks doing the shooting were most kind. Even when I messed things up they stayed positive and helpful and very tolerant. Pretty amazing really. The projected air date for the show is the Spring of 2008. It seems a long way off but really is just around the corner.
Well. Keep checking the schedule. We will be having an open house soon. Memorial Weekend should be great fun. Everything should be up and running and fully operational by that time. This week I will be working on a membership kit too. I should have something definitive by the weekend.
Thanks again to everyone for the inquires and help.
Keep it centered.

HGTV

Well, on Saturday we will have a closed set for the HGTV "That's Clever" segment. If you would like to visit us that day come by in the morning. Yes, Gnat I owe you a beer. That is if they show me on TV once the segment is created.
I was planning on going to GAS in Pittsburgh. At this point it does not look like I will make it there. Things may change but the cost at this time is prohibitive. There is always next year in Portland where everyone is going to be camping out in Steve's backyard!
Keep it centered.

Going and Blowing

We started charging the furnace last night. We got about 150 lbs of glass in. Roy is going to finish it up today for a full cook. So good. He is finishing up the glory hole today. My mom finished painting out the marigold wall yesterday as the rest of us sat around and chatted and watched.
We will be blowing on Thursday. Did I say that already? Thursday, can you believe it? It seems a long time coming. I am thrilled. Come by the studio if you can. We will start preparing for this summer.
We have some lights left to hang. Some wiring to do. Mopping of the floor. Organizing. Dusting. Little bits.
Keep it centered.

Tension

I've got tension, tension, tension is all I know...
We are putting the elements into the furnace this evening. High stress activity. They break. Once they are in usually things are good but getting them in is high stress.
Ready for relaxation.
If all goes well it will start to get hot tonight.
Peace good people.
Keep it centered.

Progress

Roy has been rebuilding the glory hole with great success. It is really looking good. Hopefully it will fire up well too. Everything is in place and the gas is being run today. Electric in the next couple of days. Hopefully everything on order will arrive in good shape and installation will be a success.
I need to order color and some needed items.
Thank you to everyone for all the help. Start planning now for our grand reopening on Memorial Day weekend.
Keep it centered.

Catch Up

Whew, time is flying. Since the break-in things seem to be moving more faster. It could be the approaching summer. It could be all the work left to do. It could be all the work that has been done.
If you have not had the opportunity to come by the studio as of late things are really coming along.
We were accepted to be on the HGTV program "That's Clever". It looks like I owe the Gnat a beer. It should be great fun. May 19th is the projected filming date. Everything has to be up and running full force before then. I hope I can get my chops back by then.
Hang on tight.
Keep it centered.

Things are coming along at the studio. We are moving things around and getting arranged. A few things to do to dictate the future and we will be up and running soon.
The Cable guy comes this afternoon and we will have internet. WiFi access. So come over and spend some time. Have a cup of coffee and surf the net.
All is well.

High Hopes

The HGTV show That's Clever is heading across country and coming to Oklahoma City. We put in an application to be featured on the show. Never knowing what to say or how to be prepared or jinxing or anything like that but how cool would it be to be featured on That's Clever. I will keep you all up to date.
Keep it centered.

Coming Along

We are working today in the studio around 5:00 or so. Shelving to hang and things to move and trying to figure out some way to shim up everything since we have such a level floor.
Sweeping and mopping are going to have to happen one of these days. Drop on by if you get the chance.
Keep it centered.

new logo

I have sort of updated our website at http://www.bluesagestudios.com
Drop by if you get the chance. We are working on a new logo. I think it will have a lot of potential. I can see the head cut out of metal and powder coated. We can use a real blowpipe to make it look like it is blowing glass and the O in studios is the piece. I think an embossed business card would look really cool too.
The studio is coming along. Getting things cleaned and arranged and moved out and around. Slower then I anticipated but coming along nevertheless. Many thanks to all those who have come by to visit and who have lent a hand.
Keep it centered my friends, keep it centered.

Gas and Electric

I got the gas turned on today. Electric is being switched. New phone and internet is in progress. I think the new number will be 405-601-2583 (blue).
All is well.
We are working tonight cleaning and moving and sorting and getting ready. I expect to be there around 5:00.
Keep it centered.

Saturday Moving at 10:00

Hello Everyone,
If I don't get you called or emailed please do not be offended things are crazy busy.
We are planning the move on Saturday, March 31st at 10:00 am. We are meeting at the barn to load up and then head out to the new studio on 12th and Western to off load. It should be a great day. If you can make it out to help that would be great and many thanks. If not, no worries. Feel free to drop by anytime to see how things are progressing.
I was in seattle all week. It was great. I have a few pictures up at the Mr. Boatman's Room blog.
